Second Chance Action credits This was another of the example adventure files distributed in the Advnet package. It was also written wholly by Merle D. Zimmermann for the enlightenment of other users of his system. You can visit his homepage at http://www.alumni.caltech.edu/~zimm/merle.html where he should have available for download copies of this game, and perhaps others that users of the system have written and are distributing. Action n, s, e, w You can't go that way. Action verbs Common verbs are open -Noun-, close -Noun-, go -Location-, look -Noun-, the compass directions n, s, e, and w, and hint. As this adventure does not support inventory commands, you will be unable to do much with get, take, inventory, or drop; but move, push, pull, On -Noun-, Off -Noun-, etc. may work. Action hint Sorry, but I can't help you here. Action help Try typing 'verbs' for a verb list, if that's your problem. Action restart I am now restarting game... Please be patient. tick tick tick . . . *BOOM* @tel Start Room Start Hello. May I welcome you to Second Chance, my first attempt at moderately serious Interactive Fiction. You will play the part of an innocent victim of a psychotic "experimental" neurosurgeon. Telling you any more might affect your performance, so I shall refrain from revealing anything else. ---More (press return) Action @tel Intro1 Room Intro1 I didn't think that the hospital treatment for the accident would take this long. I wonder when I'll be shipshape. . . . ---More Action @tel Intro2 Room Intro2 . . . I regain consciousness in some sort of hospital bed. I have a massive migrane headache, which dwarfs all of my many bodily pains which I received in the crash. Ungh. Suddenly I hear voices, as if from a long distance although I am sure that their owners must be nearby. " . . . ink that he will survive the operation? " " No, due to massi . . . emorhagin . . . at most . . . . . . ays to live. But we will at . . . cover something ab . . ." The strain of concentrating on the voices over my migrane is too much! I slip into a quiet coma. . . . ---More Action @tel Intro3 Room Intro3 I am in a small square room. Action search Examining my surroundings closely, I discover a small door on one of the walls. @tel Intro4 Action look There seems to be a small door on the west wall. @tel Intro4 Room Intro4 I am in a small square room, which has a small rectangular door on the leftmost side of the west wall. The door is closed. Action open, turn Reaching out, I turn the small brass doorknob. The door swings open on well-oiled hinges. @tel Intro5 Action search Searching does not reveal anything more. Action look, examine The door is made of what appears to be some sort of mahogany. It feels warm to the touch. There is a large brass doorknob on the door. Room Intro5 The firey inferno engulfs me. I seem to have died. . . But then how could I be thinking this? Perhaps this was some sort of weird dream or something. . . A blast of pain from my migrane makes me realize that this must have been some sort of nightmare. I can hear the voices again, this time even farther than before. ". . . eems to be improving, mas . . ." "It is on . . . emporary; . . . e will suffe . . . any . . . elapses before . . . ly succumbs to our too-hasty misdia . . ." Again the efforts to understand them exausts me. I slip back into some sort of feverish dream. . . . ---More Action @tel Zork1 Room Zork1 I am standing in a field in front of a white house. There is a mailbox here. Also, a small green sign proclaims: " No Trespassing! We support the DEATH PENALTY!" Action take, get Sorry, there are no movables here. Action open mailbox Attempting to open the mailbox fails, as it appears to have been glued shut with Psychoid Glue (50,000*10^9 pounds per square inch!) Action look house The house is boarded up. Entry is impossible. Action go house Trying the door, I find it locked. Action go mailbox Is this some sort of joke? You must be kidding me! There is no way I could fit in. Action go north, n I walk around the house to the back. @tel Zork2 Action go , s, e, w I walk into the woods surrounding the field. @tel Zork1.5 Room Zork2 I am behind the white house. A small back window has clearly been opened! Action look window Yes, the window is not simply ajar, but has been opened by a tresspasser! Room Zork1.5 I am lost in the woods. End Second Chance
