Mini Risk
Here is a version of the standard board game RISK, only designed to be
played in a small time and space, with two players.
The idea for this came to me while I was lunching on a piece of bread
and cheese.
Required
- Two Players.
- Five Dice.
- Knowledge of the standard RISK rules.
- A Piece of Paper.
- Something that can be used to write on the paper (I used a pen).
- You may want a ruler to draw straight lines with.
- Some little tokens of two different kinds (for the two Armies).
- Luck.
The Board
Make this with the pen and ruler, on the Piece of Paper.
It should look somewhat like this:
---------
|+| | |+|
---------
| | | | |
---------
| | | | |
---------
|+| | |+|
---------
(i.e. a 4x4 matrix of countries with a Plus sign in each corner.)
Only countries which share an EDGE border touch. (not at corners!)
The Rules
The rules for this game are the same as for the regular RISK, with
the following exceptions:
- Each of the two players starts with an army of twelve men.
- Instead of using the RISK board, you use my special board (above).
- Take turns placing the armies.
- At the beginning of each turn, you get a number of armies equal
to the number of countries that are marked with a '+' sign, ALTHOUGH,
it makes the game unstable if you let anyone get more then two armies
a turn, so DO NOT count countries after the first two for this.
- The rest of the rules should be the ones that RISK normally uses.
The game seemed to work alright, although it could have been more
fun (but it is better the Regular RISK with two players). It is also
easier to carry and/or recreate the board at short notice. I hope
that you enjoy it!
